Still Not Buying ItReader comment on: The Traffic Paint Shortage Submitted by Striper (United States), May 25, 2010 10:07 First off I agree, the EPA is not involved in the issue at hand. I have no doubt a drought/shortage exist but everything I've heard is that the raw materials are available at a premium. This is not an instance where there is no supply, just a price adjustment. What has stopped the supply of MM to paint producers is the fact that our country's ability to produce MM was cut to 33% of last year capabillities by Dow Chemical. If you really believe this is a drought/shortage/raw material issue then why is every paint supplier telling their contractors to expect shipment two weeks after Dow reopens their plant? From everything I've heard it can be only greed or ignorance. Why the Attorney General or at least some state legislators aren't looking into it is mind boggling. The sheer amount of layoffs this is causing and will continue to cause through the rest of the year is enough justification to at least check into it. Please don't take me as a conspiracy nut, I probably lean to good 'ole ignorance as the chief culprit but it's wrong. When your business affects this much of the American economy you have a responsibillity and the government has a responsibillity to make sure meet it.
