The spin they should try, because it's true, is that Parties in power get slammed when the economy is in terrible shape. In 1982, the Republicans lost 26 seats in the House when they started with 191. When the economy improved in 1984, Reagan was re-elected in a landslide. If the economy approves, then Obama and the Dems are in good shape. If it doesn't they are in bad shape.
