Sure - cutting public employee pension funds, earmarks and the occasional program for the poor might be pluses, but the real money is in SS, medicare/medicaid and defense. Those are all political losers at this point (except perhaps medicaid - we love picking on poor people).

Medicare: Squeeze the docs and the insurance and drug companies. Cut waste, defensive medicine.

Defense: Plenty of money there too. "Peace dividend."
