Really good post. I also think it brings up the whole issue of how we, personally, respond when we hear something we think is wrong in an offensive way. When a neighbor mentioned recently that based on the figures she'd read in the papers, the budget deficit would be solved if we shipped all illegal immigrants back home, I didn't bother to engage, just smiled and changed the subject. It's a combination of politeness and knowing that I am not going to change her mind, but also a measure of cowardice, perhaps. And that's not even in a situation where I am trying to get $5m...
