Anyone who defends this sort of ethical violation as a defense of freedom misses the point. Two wrongs never, ever make a right. There are many more than two wrongs in this type of journalism: it take people out of context and twists them. Its success relies on the good nature of the victim. The poseur knows he or she will not challenge or correct the poseur. I do hope that someone will test the limits of this as possible libel; they may rightly have a case, especially since evil intent is so clear. Citizen journalists: You can easily determine the true nature of a person using more up front means. This sort of deception demeans us and hurts democracy.
