on being disappointedReader comment on: Thoughts on the Final Presidential Debate Submitted by Daniel Skolnick (United States), Oct 23, 2012 11:11 I too was a little disappointed with Romney last night, specifically for letting go several opportunities to let Obama have it on his foreign policy weaknesses and prevarications. But to paraphrase Krauthammer, that's probably why Romney's won elections and I've never even thought about contesting one. I also think Krauthammer has a point about how Romney went big, avoiding going into the weeds on any specific foreign policy matter, but appealing to Americans' sense of how they want to be perceived abroad. As a few other commenters have pointed out, it's a little early to take the measure of Romney's potential greatness. Romney is no rhetorical or oratorical superstar, effortlessly stirring the emotions and rally the people from a podium. He may be just as cautious as he appears to me to be, though that's hard to reconcile with his investment success, which demands a certain predatory instinct. But circumstances will play a huge role in determining a man's greatness. A look at his biography, both his business career and his political one, suggests to me that he could well be the right man for these times. Anyway, there are huge gains to be reaped just by turning us away from the path Obama has set us on, Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
