Reader comment on: State Taxes and Charitable Gift Deductions

Submitted by Dean V (United States), Jan 11, 2018 17:29

The high tax states, one of which I am a resident, have taxed and taxed and spent and spent with few consequences given the deductibility of salt. Most of the benefit inures to public unions and their members, local governments and contractors of the state. Can anyone serious argue that services in red low taxed states are worse than in the blue? Why should citizens in the blue states pay for this bloat? All this change is doing is unmasking how poorly the blue states have been run. Perhaps the blue staters will demand more efficient government, perhaps they will vote with their feet. Either way, it will be a more honest picture of the costs of government.
